Transformations brings four businesses under
one roof to help clients
Four women have set up a home base in Roseville
to help clients live more complete, fulfilling
and integrated lives.
The women of Transformations opened their
office on Vernon Street in February.
“It was magical how it all just came together,”
said Stephanie Sherwood. “Our first day of all
four of us being here together, we sat down
here in this room. This building was vacant
for more than a year — it was ugly, it was dirty.
We transformed it. But we sat right there on
the dirty carpet, legs crossed, hands held in
prayer, and we cried. It was awesome.”
When she was looking for the right property
for her own business, decorative finisher Kelly
Peterson called Dave Roe, co-owner of Prime
California Homes & Lending, who had put the
property on Craigslist.
“It was Kelly who put that group of women
together, because she didn’t want a large space.”
Roe said. “It’s starting to become fashionable
on Vernon Street and downtown Roseville to come
together and share some costs. A certain level
of trust goes into that.”
Entering the office, a person encounters
Misty Trevino’s space first. She has been an
interior decorator for 10 years.
According to Trevino, transforming someone’s
space has a strong relationship to their emotional
well-being.
“My direct business transformation is often
subliminal for a person ... Our environment
affects us greatly,” she said.
Barbara Wilber, previously a women’s ministry
director, is now a personal coach for businesswomen.
“Where my transformational work is done is
at the level of ‘What is the lie you have been
believing all of your life about who you are
and what you can do?’ And a lot of times, most
of the time, they’re not aware of the lie,”
Wilber said. “It’s something they’ve inherited.”
Stephanie Sherwood established the BAM Project
(Beliefs, Authenticity, Message) this year.
Through that, she helps to build community and
equip women to grow stronger in their faith
and better in business.
“My transformation is really focusing on
letting women be, giving them the strength and
the courage and the boldness that they need,
so that when they show up here or there, they
get to show up, (with) all of their glory and
worth,” she said.
Kelly Peterson creates artistic decorative
finishes for furniture, cabinets, walls, or
anything that can be painted. She works personally
for clients herself, as well as teaching the
craft at all levels. She often works with talented
professional finishers who may, in addition,
need transformation of their self-perception.
“They need to feel confident when they go
in front of someone proposing,” Peterson said.
“So I talk to them about how to feel confident
about selling themselves and their work.”
The group hopes to help grow the businesses
and lives of their clients.
Nemi Thackerson of Roseville, an artist who
works in many media, is one of those.
“I just happened to find Kelly’s website
like two weeks ago,” Thackerson said. “I finally
called her yesterday and she says, ‘Hey, I have
this studio class, just come in and you can
experiment with more of my products.’”
While each member of the Transformations
group has a different expertise and enterprise,
they all, in a Christian setting, are helping
to transform the world of women.
“I think the Transformations name is really
critical ...” Trevino said. “Because these two
(Wilber and Sherwood) are transforming lives,
we two (herself and Peterson) are transforming
spaces and lives ... This isn’t an official
tag line, but it could be — transforming lives,
transforming spaces.”
