About The Finishing Touch

The Finishing Touch began in 2001 with a dream of better things to come. I was working in the insurance industry, but found that it was not my passion. Late one night I woke up with visions of fabrics and drapery hardware and a shop where people could come and pick out all of the lovely things to make their homes beautiful. I just couldn’t sleep…and The Finishing Touch began!

At the age of 9, I learned how to sew. For me it was a frustrating task…but with Mom’s encouragement (be sure to check out her note on the customer testimonial page), I stuck with it and learned all the necessary skills that I now use every day. From the ages of 16 to 18, I worked in a fabric store and although I was not able to help in that department, I always had a strong desire to learn more about the “Home Decorating” department of the store.

The “dreams” and sleepless nights began when my husband and I bought our first home and I took on the task of making our curtains. I had long given up on sewing clothes, but I found that I absolutely LOVED creating beautiful things for my home. Not just my home, but my relative’s homes and neighbor’s homes and friend’s homes. It became a passion.

In 2003 our daughter was born and I was now working full time in this career that I absolutely loved. The beauty of it was that I was able to work from home and be available to our daughter as much as I wanted to be. To me, this was an absolute miraculous blessing!

In the early years of the company, I offered a simple sewing service. You would bring your fabric and design to me and I would gladly sew it and deliver it to you. I found that I was not content to simply sew the window treatments…I wanted more. So, I poured myself into learning all I could about designing and manufacturing custom window treatments and was very fortunate to find many mentors along the way.

The source of most of my help has been the Custom Home Furnishings Academy in Charlotte, NC. From that source, I have been able to network with other business owners around the country who are running parallel businesses to mine.

I’ve heard that the 5 year mark for a company is pretty critical. Typically it’s the point when a company begins to turn a profit and The Finishing Touch was no exception. In 2006 we were well established with a great client base and had established relationships with many solid partner companies. Currently, in our fabrication studio, we stock fabric and trim samples from companies like: Fabricut, Trend, Catania Silks and Award Fabrics. We offer drapery hardware from companies like: Orion, Helser Brothers, Amore and Kirsch.

We offer hard window treatments through Hunter Douglas and B&W Window Fashions. And, we have access to thousands of home accessories, furniture and carpet samples at two Sacramento design showrooms. We have truly come full circle and now stand as a solid full-service interior decorating company. In 2008, The Finishing Touch completed two whole house projects and is currently working on another whole house project in 2009.

I’ve asked my customers to tell me what they value most about the services I provide. The overwhelming response has been the personal service that they receive from me. My clients appreciate the fact that I am personally responsible from start to finish for every aspect of the project. What that means is that I will:

1. Personally meet with you to determine the style, fabric, hardware, accessories, bedding, etc

2. Personally sew/manufacture all of the soft items we have agreed upon
(soft window treatments, bedding, pillows, cushions, etc)

3. Personally deliver and install the window treatments, bedding, etc.
(At times it may be necessary to sub contract the installation of your treatments,
however, the items will be delivered by me.)

Running an honest and ethical business with a dedication to excellence and high quality standards are all critically important to me. My desire is that you will be more than satisfied with your project. It is your home, so we will design it together with your needs, desires, and tastes in mind. Having my personal service all along the way will give you the extra peace of mind that you will receive the product that you were expecting. With any luck, we will exceed your expectations!

People! Meeting with my customers is one of the most exciting things about my job. I absolutely love helping my clients to select beautiful items for their home. One of the most rewarding things for me is when a client allows me to gently pull them out-of-the-box and show them something that they hadn’t thought of before. These scenarios work out well for both of us. I enjoy the process of helping a client think outside the box and my client is the happy recipient of a beautiful room!

Additionally, I love working with designers who specialize in other areas. I have, on several occasions, partnered with interior designers who utilize my expertise with their clients. It is critically important to me that there is a mutual respect in these types of scenarios. I am more than happy to act as a specialist or consultant in the areas of soft home goods (window treatments, bedding, pillows, table coverings) for interior designers. I recognize that we each have something to bring to the table…we each have our own unique gifts and talents.

Please check out my Services Page to learn more about what I have to offer through The Finishing Touch.
I am looking forward to working with you!

With much appreciation,

Misty Trevino
